Village Maid asked me in to capture the making. Not the finished product sat on a board, but the whole process, and the people who spend their lives making the cheesy magic happen.
Village Maid have been making cheese by hand for a very long time, and they go about it properly.
A genuinely sustainable brand, a small team who know exactly what they are doing, and a cabinet of World Cheese Awards to show for it.
The brief was simple. Come and film what actually happens.
Early start, warm room, and the smell of it in everything I owned by the end of the day.
The curd, the moulds, and the hands doing the work.
What got me was how much of it is done by feel. No machine telling anyone when the curd is ready, just people who have made enough cheese to know.
There may have been a bit of free cheese involved as well. How was I supposed to say no?
Thank you to the whole Village Maid team for letting me in, working around the camera all day and explaining the same thing twice when I asked. None of this happens without them.
